I make jewellery to be worn. Understanding its materials helps you care for each piece without treating it as something too precious to enjoy.
Glass & resilienceGlass is often thought of as fragile. Yet in my experience, a soldered joint can sometimes give way before the glass itself. The tempered glass I use is highly resistant, much like the glass used for marbles, though it is not indestructible.
Avoid hard impacts and, above all, sudden temperature changes. Thermal shock remains a particular vulnerability: allow your jewellery to adjust gradually rather than exposing it directly to intense heat or cold.
Everyday cleaningA soft, damp cloth is generally enough for everyday cleaning. Wipe gently, then dry the piece thoroughly with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive materials and do not soak pieces containing resin, glue or plated components.
Stainless steel and plated stainless steel do not need polishing. Brass and silver can be gently polished when they become dull, keeping the polishing cloth away from adjacent resin and plated surfaces.
Pieces made with glass and unplated stainless steel, silver or brass, without resin or glued components, can also be rinsed or cleaned in an ultrasonic cleaner. Always dry them thoroughly afterwards. If you are unsure about your piece’s materials or construction, contact me before choosing this method.
Water, fragrance & skinResin and plated finishes can react to water and the pH of your skin. Their response varies from person to person and with everyday wear.
Remove pieces containing these materials before showering or swimming. Apply perfume, creams and cosmetics before putting on your jewellery, allowing them to dry first.
If you notice a change in a finish or component, I am available to advise on its care.
Storage & travelStore each piece separately in a dry place, in a soft pouch or lined compartment, to avoid contact with other jewellery.
When travelling, place individually wrapped pieces inside a rigid case to protect them from pressure and impact. Avoid leaving jewellery beside heat sources or anywhere exposed to abrupt temperature changes.
My work does not end when a piece leaves the studio. I remain available for care advice, repairs and adjustments.
If a component becomes loose or damaged, stop wearing the piece and contact me before attempting a repair. We can assess what is needed and discuss the options.
I welcome conversations about how you live and wear your jewellery. Fit, proportions, fastening and construction can be considered together, with a sartorial approach to comfort and durability. The aim is a piece tailored not only to your measurements, but to your way of life.
